First responders freed a four-year-old boy that was pinned in the rear of a vehicle after a rear-end collision that occurred Wednesday in a construction area along U.S. Route 33 near Township Road 94 just west of Russells Point.
Officers of the Washington Township Police Department report Judith Ashworth, 48, of Lakeview, was sitting in construction zone traffic when her vehicle was struck from behind by a tractor-trailer operated by Yaw Fosu of South Bend, Ind.
There were five occupants in the Ashworth vehicle, including a four-year-old boy that had been pinned in the rear of the vehicle, and personnel from the Indian Joint Fire District worked to free the child.
No one was seriously injured, and everyone was treated at the scene.
Fosu was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
Suspect lodged on warrants, narcotics recovered
Colan Spires, 24, of Bellefontaine, was arrested on multiple outstanding warrants and also charged with additional drug charges following a traffic stop executed about 5 p.m. Wednesday by officers of the Washington Township Police Department.
An officer on patrol in the area of state routes 366 and 368 performing routine license plate checks observed the suspect’s vehicle and identified multiple warrants out for his arrest. Upon making contact with Spires, he denied any knowledge of the warrants.
He was transported to Logan County Jail, and upon arrival law enforcement found two separate packages of Suboxone in Spire’s socks. He advised officers that he had forgotten he placed the items there. He was then charged with illegal conveyance of drugs into a detention facility and possession of a schedule four controlled substance. One of the warrants was for failure to appear and another was abduction. There was an additional warrant however it was not determined at time of booking as to what that warrant was for.
