A man once recognized for helping save the life of a man involved in a crash was identified as the victim in Monday morning’s fatal crash in northern Logan County.
Terry E. Turner, 44, an employee of Logan County Children’s Services currently living in Columbus, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 8:30 a.m. head-on crash on U.S. Route 68 just south of County Road 51, troopers of the Marysville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol report.
He was southbound on U.S. 68 in a 2012 Ford Focus when his vehicle went left of center and was struck by a northbound 1996 Peterbilt tractor-trailer driven by Justin M. Samples, 30, of Hamilton. Mr. Samples sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated and released, troopers said.
Both drivers were wearing their seat belts and troopers do not suspect alcohol was a factor.
Mr. Turner, a 1991 Bellefontaine High School graduate, was among the citizens honored by the Bellefontaine Fire Department for helping save the life of Dean Parmer on Aug. 28, 2014.
Mr. Parmer went into cardiac arrest while driving and was involved in a crash. Mr. Turner, a witness, stopped to help and, along with Anthony Vicario, removed Mr. Parmer from the vehicle so Sally Moyer and Cortnie Whisman could administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures. Mr. Parmer survived.
Personnel from the Rushsylvania Fire Department and squad and a BMRT squad responded to the scene Monday morning.
It is the first fatal crash in Logan County this year.
