Triad’s game plan struggled to get going Friday as North Union took control and came away with a 65-43 win in the opening game of the Benjamin Logan Tip-Off Classic.
“We came out in the first quarter under control, and we wanted to push the tempo,” said Triad head coach Jason Malone. “North Union ran through stuff. They were patient and we got impatient. Things weren’t falling into place for us.”
Triad faces Riverside at 6 p.m. tonight in the consolation game of the tournament.
North Union held a slight lead over Triad after the first quarter with a 15-12 score. The Wildcats distanced themselves in the second period with a 21-13 run. That pushed them to a 36-25 advantage at halftime.
“They hammered us on the boards,” said Malone. “Every shot they had three guys going to the glass. We gave them too many second-chance shots and rebounds.”
