Construction impacts fall sports schedules
Parents of students participating in sports or extracurricular activites in West Liberty-Salem Local School District won’t have to shell out additional cash to help pay the bus drivers or offset fuel costs.
School board members voted Tuesday in a regular meeting to eliminate a $50 student transportation fee charged to students participating in any extracurricular activity that required transportation.
Since 2010, WL-Salem has asked families to help offset the cost of transportation to and from sporting events, and other off-site extracurricular activities. The fee applied per student activity, and was capped at $450 per family.
A healthier financial outlook prompted the change, according to school administrators at the regular meeting Tuesday of the WL-Salem Board of Education.
