Alexa Barber, 28, of DeGraff, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop about 7:45 p.m. Friday.
Officers of the Russells Point Police Department were notified about a possible drunk driver on U.S. Route 33 near Sunnyside Avenue by a deputy from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office who was transporting a prisoner in the area.
Officers located the vehicle at U.S. 33 and Lincoln Boulevard and conducted a traffic stop. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Barber, and several signs of impairment were detected when officers spoke with her.
She eventually was asked to perform field sobriety tests, but she reportedly failed to comply with the officer’s requests several times to exit her vehicle.
When she finally exited the vehicle, drug paraphernalia was observed in plain sight, which lead to officers finding of open containers of alcohol and additional drug paraphernalia in her vehicle. The defendant reportedly failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest.
Her vehicle was impounded and she was transported to the Logan County Jail, where she refused to submit to a urine test. She also received a citation for an open container in a motor vehicle.
