West Liberty-Salem’s girls basketball team gutted out a 33-23 win over visiting Miami East on Saturday in a non-league battle.
The Tigers remain unbeaten at 3-0 on the season and the Vikings fall to 2-3.
WL-Salem took a 9-1 lead after the opening quarter and outscored Miami East 13-11 in the second quarter. That gave the Tigers a 22-12 halftime lead.
The Vikings shut out the Tigers in the third quarter 4-0, but still trailed 22-16.
WL-Salem outscored the Vikings 11-7 in the final period to wrap up the win.
Selena Weaver paced the Tigers with 20 points. Emily Hollar had four points and six steals, while Aubrey Williams, Grace Estes and Gabby Williams each had three points.
In junior varsity action, Miami East defeated WL-Salem 28-16. Madeline Hutton led the Tigers with five points.
WL-Salem travels to Ft. Loramie on Tuesday for another non-league contest.
