Three people were charged Friday after they sped away from officers and switched vehicles.
Audric D. Clay, 31, at large, was charged with criminal damaging, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia and served warrants for two counts of trafficking in crack cocaine.
Betty J. Carter, 28, at large, was charged with failure to comply and possession of dangerous drugs, while Caleb E. Jacobs, 23, of 715 W. Chillicothe Ave., Apt. 6, was served a warrant for failure to appear.
Around 1:10 a.m., officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department observed the suspect at Village Pantry, 200 E. Sandusky Ave., and recognized Clay. They observed him and Jacobs get into a van operated by Carter.
The officers followed and tried to stop the van on Chillicothe Avenue and Park Street. Carter sped off eastbound, running stop signs, passing cars and hitting speeds upward of 100 mph.
Officers pursued out Eastern Avenue onto County Road 10 and onto County Road 55. The pursuit was terminated at C.R. 55 and Ludlow Road.
Officers returned to the city and set up to catch the Carter when she returned in the van. Instead, an officer at Gunntown Road and Ludlow observed Carter driving a car.
Again officers tried to stop the motorist and again she sped off. This time, she slammed on the brakes after reaching about 60 mph and came to a stop at Township Road 181.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office arrived and assisted with the stop.
All were ordered out of the car and taken into custody.
Both men said Carter was driving the van and the car and both asked her to stop during the first pursuit. Carter switched vehicles at a County Road 29 residence.
A bag containing scales and plastic baggies with cocaine residue was found where Clay was seated in the car and a cigarette pack containing a prescription pill was found in Carter’s control. Two cell phones were taken as evidence from Clay.
All were lodged in the Logan County Jail. Authorities located the van and seized it and the car.
Later, officers were called to a County Road 10 property to recover a stolen and loaded 9mm handgun that most likely was thrown from the van.
• Michael D. Garrett, 40, of 547 E. Columbus Ave., Apt. 1, was served a warrant for failure to appear and charged with two counts of illegal possession of prescription drugs and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was observed walking around 6:05 p.m. in the 300 block of east Columbus Avenue and officers stopped him. He had a makeshift crack cocaine pipe and several pills in a bottle.
He was lodged in jail.
• Jeannie M. Magill, 33, of 11344 Chinook Path, Lakeview, was served a warrant Monday for contempt of court.

Gary L. Bensman, 65, of 207 Hayes St., was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and cited for a stop sign violation around 6:45 p.m. Monday.
An officer observed a sport utility vehicle stop well past a stop bar and stopped Bensman on Sandusky Avenue near Park Street.
The officer approached from the passenger side and Bensman reached over to open the door. He reportedly fell into the passenger seat.
An odor of alcohol was detected coming from Bensman as the officer talked with him. He also was slow to answer questions and slurred his speech.
Field sobriety tests indicated he was impaired by alcohol and his breathalyzer sample came back at 0.155.
