As the first major celebration of the Logan County Bicentennial nears, the Logan County Commissioners have announced the formation of a new choir.
The event will be an approximately hour-long celebration beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at the Holland Theatre, 127 E. Columbus Ave. The program will feature three dialogues presented by famous characters from the history of Logan County interspersed with musical performances and brief comments by local and possibly state dignitaries in attendance.
The Bicentennial Choir, which is open to any interested resident high school age or older, will perform the song Magnify the Light by Carl Strommen, about mid-way through the program. The gospel style a capella song was chosen because the symbology reflects some of Logan County’s natural treasures while also having a “celebratory feel,” Commissioner Joe Antram wrote in a letter seeking talented performers.
Mike Kildow will conduct the choir while David Martin is the pianist.
Anyone interested in singing can show up at the first rehearsal session at 4 p.m. Sunday, March 11, at the First Christian Church, 215 E. Sandusky Ave., where the choir will have its second rehearsal at 7 p.m. the following day, Monday, March 12. A third and final rehearsal will take place at the Holland Theater the morning of the show, 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 17. Singers should be able to commit to at least two of the three rehearsals.
Preregistration is not required but anyone with questions about the event or the choir may contact Commissioner Antram or leave a message at (937) 599-7283.
