A 17-year-old Rushsylvania area boy was charged with failure to comply with the order of a police officer and theft of a motor vehicle related to a pursuit in the stolen vehicle early Sunday morning that began in Hardin County and continued into Logan County.
Following the early morning pursuit, deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office located the suspect, Hunter Roberts, and he was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Logan County deputies were dispatched to the Ridgeway area about 4:10 a.m. on a report from Hardin County deputies about a suspect driving a stolen Ford Explorer southbound on State Route 292.
Hardin County units attempted to stop the vehicle in the Ridgeway area, but the driver reportedly refused to comply and then continued westbound on County Road 40. Deputies said once the stolen sport utility vehicle reached State Route 274, the driver turned off the road and continued driving through fields in the area.
Both Hardin County and Logan County deputies positioned themselves around the field on the roadway, and several cruisers also entered the field in attempt to stop the suspect, which continued for about 15 minutes.
Deputies report the suspect then crashed into a steep ditch in the area and began running westbound to a wooded area. A perimeter was set up to try to locate the suspect, also with the assistance of Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers and canine units from the Bellefontaine Police Department and Hardin County Sheriff’s Office.
Hunter was not located at that time. However, deputies located him a short time later riding as a passenger in a jeep during a traffic stop in the area of County Road 12 and County Road 265 and he was placed under arrest.
Two other teens in the vehicle were released to their parents, and were notified they might face charges as well.
The fields damaged in the pursuit are owned by John Dugan.
