The candidate who hopes to buck the GOP establishment and knock off a seasoned politician en route to being the first woman elected to the Ohio governor’s office made a stop in Bellefontaine on Wednesday afternoon.

Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor, who is running against Mike DeWine for the Republican nomination in the May 8 primary, appeared along with her running mate, Nathan Estruth at Sweet Aromas, 120 E. Court Ave., for a gathering with local supporters.
An avowed tea party conservative, Taylor, a suburban Akron accountant who began her political career on the Green City Council about 20 years ago, criticized the record of her opponent over the course of his 40-plus years in politics, and said that he is trying to cruise on an endorsement from the state Republican Party instead of answering to voters.
“They (the Republican Party) are trying to coronate a candidate instead of letting it go to the voters,” she said of the state party’s endorsement.”
