A repeat offender was arrested Thursday for trafficking in heroin as part of a Logan County Joint Drug Task Force investigation.
Derek A. Newell, 31, of 321 Richard Ave., was found around 1 p.m. at his residence and taken into custody on a warrant for trafficking in heroin. An additional trafficking charge and possession of heroin were added by detectives as a result of the arrest.
Based on their investigation, task force detectives with assistance from the Bellefontaine Police Department converged on his residence as he was returning from Columbus with heroin.
Authorities blocked in his vehicle as he came to a stop behind the residence.
Multiple units of heroin were recovered from a woman who was with Mr. Newell at the time of arrest.
Mr. Newell has been arrest twice in 2014 for heroin trafficking; for possession and drug abuse in 2015; and on a probation violation in March.
He terminated from probation after the March arrest, clearing the way for a prison term from future offenses.
More charges may be filed from the Thursday apprehension.
