Joseph L. Converse, 45, of 11287 Mohawk Path, Chippewa, Lakeview, was charged with domestic violence, resisting arrest, aggravated menacing and telephone harassment following an incident that began Saturday evening.
Deputies were dispatched about 9:25 p.m. to his address in reference to a domestic dispute. His wife, Stephanie, 30, reported that her husband was drinking that evening and started to argue with her. During the argument, he reportedly damaged a bedroom door and door frame.
She said she attempted to call the sheriff’s office, and he allegedly struck her, knocking off her glasses. Deputies did not observe any injuries to Mrs. Converse.
The defendant then took off on foot, and deputies attempted to make contact with him several times by phone. During phone conversations, he allegedly made threats toward deputies, stating that he was armed and also citing the number of law enforcement deaths during the summer.
About 1:50 a.m., deputies located the suspect in a vehicle by his residence. They did not locate any weapons. He was lodged in jail.
