Indian Lake Elementary School students who completed their summer reading logs are getting rewards for their continued work over the summer.
ILES reading guru Fisherwoman Frieda led a Summer Reading Celebration assembly recently to congratulate all the readers and discuss what special strategies the kids used to sound out words and comprehend stories they read. This year’s theme was about the Wild West, encouraging kids to read non-fiction books.
ILES reading teacher Elaine Jacobs reports more than 150 first- through fifth-graders turned in completed reading logs, indicating they read at least 30 times over the summer.
Students who turned in the logs got to choose a new book, enjoy an extra recess, a fun prize and a candy bar.
