The Builders Club at Benjamin Logan Middle School had the opportunity to “spread the warmth” by participating in a sock drive earlier this month.
Sixth-grader Cara France was inspired by the idea to collect socks from an incident that her mother experienced while working at a school. Staff members observed that a young student was not wearing shoes her right foot.
A co-worker of her mother’s helped put the girl’s shoes on, and noticed she was not wearing any socks. The co-worker brought in a pair of socks for the student and said the girl was overjoyed to receive the new socks.
Cara’s idea spurred the Builders Club’s donation of 230 pairs of socks to New Directions of TCN, which is a family-centered violence intervention program for domestic violence and sexual assault victims in Logan and Champaign counties.
The students are planning to make this an annual event for the Builders Club. Patty Price serves as the club adviser.
