Ohio Hi-Point Career Center Superintendent Rick Smith provided a number of updates regarding student achievements at state and national conferences during the board’s recent meeting.
Outdoor Career students Ben Brunswick, Creighton Bradley, Stephen Dunham, and Chris Fulmer competed in the National Collegiate Landscape Competition March 14-20 at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. They were only one of two career-technical schools in the nation to compete against two- and four-year colleges.
Chris Fulmer placed 26th out of 672 students. Outdoor Careers Instructor Cole Carpenter also received the Stihl Faculty Spirit Award, which will provide $1,000 to his program.
Pupils Chelsea Strunk and Matthew Smith are advancing to the 2017 National Business Professionals of America Competition in Orlando, Fla., after their performances at the Ohio BPA State Leadership Conference. In addition, all of the BPA students who competed at the state competition placed in the top six of their respective categories.
