Gretchen Powell’s fourth-grade students sunk their teeth into a math problem Wednesday as they applied their knowledge of fractions to make pizzas.

Her Benjamin Logan Elementary classroom was turned into a pizzeria with the help of a $500 Energizing Education grant from the Logan County Electric Cooperative.
She calls the effort Fractions in Action.
“The fourth-graders have 15 standards to learn about fractions,” she said, “and I wanted to make the experience as real-world and hands on as possible.”
