Wednesday snowfall forced the International DN Ice Yacht Racing Association to relocate the site of its North American Championship races.
The international contingent of ice boat racers have moved about three hours west to Lake Wawasee in Indiana, according to an update from the IDNIYRA Web site.
Indian Lake was selected Feb. 15 as the host site for the world and North American ice boat racing championships, as outlined in Tuesday’s Examiner. But early morning snowfall Wednesday made lake conditions impossible to race on.
International “Gold Cup” championships were staged Tuesday at Indian Lake, with Polish racer Michal Burcynski taking first place in the gold fleet.
Americans Dave Clapp and Chad Coberly finished first in the silver and bronze fleets, respectively.
The North American championships continue through the rest of this week in Indiana.
