A rough first half was the difference for Triad’s boys basketball team on Friday as host Mechanicsburg capitalized early and rolled to a 56-41 Ohio Heritage Conference win.
The Cardinals drop to 1-16 overall and 0-13 in the OHC North, while the Indians move to 5-10, 4-9.
Mechanicsburg raced out to a 14-6 lead after the first quarter. The Indians used another big run (16-3) in the second quarter to build a 30-9 halftime cushion.
In the third quarter, M’burg clipped Triad 12-11 to make it a 42-20 score. The Cardinals were unable to rally in the final period.
Ayden Spriggs sparked the Triad offense with 12 points, Batai Lease scored 10 points and Ayden Sanford tallied nine points.
In junior varsity action, Mechanicsburg dropped Triad 50-40. Carson Manley had 12 points for the Cardinals. Triad hosts Northeastern on Tuesday for its next OHC contest. MECHANICSBURG 56, TRIAD 41
