The Sloan Trust has approved equipment purchases for Bellefontaine City Schools and the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center for the 2017-18 school year totaling $175,000 for each school.
Equipment purchased by the schools with the Sloan Industrial School funds is used for vocational educational purposes in accordance with directives contained in the Last Will and Testament of Dr. Earl S. Sloan.
Dr. Sloan was a native of Zanesfield who formulated and patented “Sloan’s Liniment” in the early part of the 20th century. He died in Boston in 1923.
His will established the “Sloan Industrial School,” which was formed with the purpose of supplementing vocational education programs in Bellefontaine High School.
However, the trust created under the will did not begin funding vocational education until 1948, following the death of Dr. Sloan’s widow in 1946.
Since the establishment of the trust, more than $11 million has been expended for vocational educational equipment in Bellefontaine City Schools and the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center.
