Sandra Lou “Sandy” Smith, 74, of Mechanicsburg, was born in Bellefontaine on Oct. 2, 1944. She entered heaven’s gates Nov. 12, 2018.
Sandy attended West Liberty-Salem School and graduated from the Ohio State University College of Nursing, earning her BS and RN degrees She cared for many people during her 25 years as a nurse and grief counselor.
She and her husband, Mitchell B. Smith recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. They enjoyed many years of travel, especially to their summer home in Livingston, Mont. Quiet times watching horses and wildlife with a backdrop of mountains and streams were a favorite.
She was an advocate of natural preservation stemming from growing up at Ohio Caverns.
Sandy’s love of and devotion to her family were her greatest pride.
She was selfless and nurturing. She especially loved time with her grandchildren.
Sandy is survived by her husband, Mitchell; her daughter and sonin- law, Kristan and John Archy; her son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Lisa Smith; a sister, Vivian Evans; her grandchildren, Noraa and Avery Smith and Mae and Jack Archy; as well as a special niece and nephews, extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Reva Mae and Marion Smith; son, Brian Smith; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Smith; father-in-law, Bryan Smith; and brother-in-law, Max Evans.
A memorial service to celebrate her life begins at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, in Vernon Funeral home, Urbana, following calling that begins at 11 a.m. Pastor Rose Michael officiates.
