Nancy Ellen Durham Weimer, 81, of Columbus and formerly of Bellefontaine, passed away at 2:22 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018, in Wesley Glen Retirement Community, Columbus.
She was born in Bellefontaine on Jan. 25, 1937, the daughter of the late Frederick and Estelle Hoffman Durham.
On Aug. 25, 1984, she married Don Lincoln Weimer and he preceded her in death, along with a brother, Frederick “Pete” Durham and nephew, Todd Morgan Durham.
She is survived by her brother, David (Imogene) Durham; niece, Jennifer (Matthew) Viets; nephew, Ted Durham; great-nephew, Steven Viets; great-niece, Alexandra Durham; stepson, Deven Weimer’ stepgrandchildren, Sarah and Anna Weimer; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Durham; as well as other family members and friends.
Nancy graduated from Bellefontaine High School and then Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland. She then received her BA degree from Miami University and a MS degree from the University of California, San Francisco. She received additional education from the University of Toledo as a primary nurse practitioner. She spent her professional career at CWRU Hospitals, teaching at CWRU in the nursing Program, Mary Rutan Hospital and as a “friendly neighbor” for many with whom she came into contact. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Worthington and Chapter 267 Order of Eastern Star.
Nancy was honored as a member of the National Nursing Society, a graduation speaker for a CWRU nursing class, teacher of the year and co-author of several chapters in a nursing text.
She enjoyed her four-footed pets (dog and cat), caring for a flower and vegetable garden, learning the computer, keeping up with medical innovations and reading almost anything she could get her hands on.
She worked diligently on in-home renovations and was glad when it was done though there was always more to do.
She leaves a wish that the world be at peace.
