Robert W. Oberdier, 94, of Urbana, passed away May 17, 2018, at the Ohio State University East Hospital in Columbus.
He was born March 5, 1924, in Richwood, the son of Roy W. and Jesse Smith Oberdier.
Robert was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Alice Clark in 1980. In 1982, he married Patricia Anne Curl, who passed away in 2003.
He is survived by daughter, Beth A. Oberdier; son, Stephen (Deb) Oberdier; stepdaughter, Darcy (Duane) Baker; stepsons, Daniel (Jill) Curl and David Curl; special stepdaughter, Mary Ann Curl; granddaughter, Katie (Taylor) Wessels and great-granddaughter, Ellie Wessels; grandsons, C.J. Curl, Ryan Cooper; granddaughter, Erin (Jeremy) Titus and great-grandchildren, Dylan Cooper and Max and Mea Titus.
After graduating Woodstock High School, he joined the U.S. Army and served in Germany and Japan. After his discharge, he returned home to work at the Grimes Plant. In the late 1940s he started a furniture and appliance store in Woodstock. In 1960, he went to work for the Westinghouse Corporation in Columbus. He retired in 1983 as a factory service manager in their Edison, N.J., plant. He was also a long-time member of the Woodstock Lions Club. He was a devoted family man who was happiest when he had a project around the house. Later in life he was able to travel extensively, fulfilling a life-long goal.
Pastor Mike Valentine will conducts a memorial service at 1 p.m. Friday, May 25, at the Walter & Lewis Funeral Home in Urbana, where calling begins at 11 a.m. prior to the service.
