Robert (Bob) D. Mitchell, 79, of West Liberty, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife and children.
He was born in Richmond, California on January 5, 1945, to Robert and Lucille Mitchell. He spent most of his childhood in Reno, Nevada, where he loved skiing and the outdoors. While working for Vista, a domestic version of the Peace Corp, he met and married Barbara Lacksonen. They moved to Estacada, Oregon, where two daughters were born. In 1975, the family moved to Urbana, Ohio, where five more children were born.
In 1989, Bob started Commercial Installers, a door and hardware installation company. As owner of the company, Bob mentored many young workers and built an unparalleled reputation for quality and integrity in the Columbus commercial building market.
Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara, of 55 years, and his 7 children: Ninotchka (Joe) Timm, Mary Mitchell, Sarah (Leonardo) Martinovic, David (Sarah) Mitchell, John (Sarah) Mitchell, Christopher (Rosemary) Mitchell, and Mark Mitchell. Bob was also a loving grandfather of 15 grandchildren.
Bob was known as a man of faith and humility and deeply loved his family, church family, and Lord. He served God his whole life and worked tirelessly for his family and friends. His generosity warmed the hearts of many. Bob will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be Friday, March 1, 5 to 7 p.m. at Vernon Funeral Home, 235 Miami Street in Urbana.
The funeral service will be Saturday, March 2, 10:30a.m., at Urbana Christian Fellowship, 1778 W State Route 29 in Urbana.
Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Urbana.
