HOUSTON — Once the storms stopped, Riverside’s softball team displayed its own thunder here Tuesday.

Riverside blasted five home runs — with three coming off the bat of senior Marissa Davis — to outlast Franklin-Monroe 8-7 in a Division IV sectional final at Houston High School.
The Pirates, who avenged a regional tournament loss to the Jets last year, are now 20-2 and advance to a district championship matchup against Mechanicsburg on Friday.
“That is what we do,” said Riverside head coach Andy Phelps of his team’s home run explosion. “We hit the ball hard and we hit with power, one through nine in the order. I never feel like we are out of a game with an offense like this.”
