Ridgemont Schools officials introduced at the Thursday evening board of education meeting the district’s new directional system that will provide guidance for decision making and planning in the future.
With the design and construction of a new building, the Ridgemont began to evaluate the methods it used to deliver instruction, Superintendent Emmy Beeson said.
To develop the directional system, discussions took place with more than 100 stakeholders, staff, students, parents and community members.
Included in the directional system is the district mission statement: “In designing the future, Ridgemont Local Schools will create partnerships with our families and community which broaden minds to learn and serve through collaboration, innovation and rigorous academics for life’s learning journey.”
The document also includes the district’s principles, partners, instructional strategies, beliefs and the “Traits of a Gopher,” and will be available on the district’s Web site, www.ridgemont.k12.oh.us.
Also during the meeting, the board approved an online calamity day plan. If more than five days of school are missed because of inclement weather, the next three days that are missed would be completed online or through “blizzard bags” that are sent home for student to complete.
The school district also spent much of the 2015-16 school year updating its Emergency Operations Plan to accommodate for all of the changes with the new building. The plan includes natural disaster scenarios, bio-hazardous situations, active shooter, and shelter-in-place protocols, along with parent/student reunification.
The information has been reviewed by and distributed to first responders, the Ohio Department of Education and is currently being reviewed by Homeland Security for final approval.
