Richard Lee Pine, formerly of Bellefontaine, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2021, in Olathe, Kansas.
Richard was born February 19, 1946, in Spring Hills, Ohio, to the late Elbert and Daisy (Hughes) Pine.
Richard was somewhat of a local legend who performed with his bands, Richard Pine and the Woodsmen and Sundown, winning several Battle of the Bands competitions. During his career, he also performed at Tootsie’s Lounge and Ernest Tubbs Record Shop in Nashville, Tennessee.
Richard loved and was passionate about stock car racing. If he wasn’t playing music on a Saturday night, he could be found at Shadybowl Speedway. Sundays were for watching NASCAR.
Richard was an outgoing person who loved being the center of attention, but would do anything to help a friend.
Richard is survived by his children, Connie of Simpsonville, S.C., Richard Jr. of Bellefontaine, Steve (Angie) of Shawnee, Kansas, Joe of Bellefontaine, and Andy (Carolyn) of Urbana. Ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Paul Michael Pine.
A celebration of life service will be July 11, 1 to 3 p.m. at the Logan County Friendly Senior Center, Bellefontaine.
Richard will be deeply missed by family and friends. It is our wish that he is now racing with Dale, singing with George, and fishing with Grandpa.
