Richard F. “Dick” Detrick, 89, of Bellefontaine, passed from death into life on Monday, July 30, 2018, at Mary Rutan Hospital.
He was born May 11, 1929, to the late Don A. and Alice Tripp Elliott Detrick.
He is survived by his wife, Arletha, whom he married Aug. 8, 1955; children, Bill (Mona) Detrick and Jennifer (Jeff) Rizzo; his grandchildren, Morgan (Ben) Stampfle, Drew Rizzo and Monica Rizzo; a great-grandchild, Viviana Rose Stampfle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Also preceding him in death were a son, Michael Detrick; and siblings, Betty Gordon, William H. Detrick, Don R. Detrick, Vinton Detrick, Joann Smith and Alice Jane Nelson.
Richard graduated from Bellefontaine High School and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Bellefontaine, where he served faithfully until his failing health prevented it.
He served in the U.S. Army in Korea and worked as a carpenter in construction most of his life. After retirement, he started his own business, Dick’s Woodworks, and especially enjoyed traveling to craft shows.
In accordance with his wishes, his body was donated to Wright State School of Medicine.
A Celebration of Life begins at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at Calvary Baptist Church, 1140 Rush Ave., Bellefontaine. He especially wanted everyone in attendance to be invited back to the fellowship hall for ice cream and cake.
