The State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to assist in the investigation of a fatal house fire that occurred Monday morning on Orchard Island.
Jon Conrad, 63, was found inside in the residence, 9070 Sycamore St., and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Firefighters of the Indian Joint Fire District, Lakeview Fire Department, Indian Lake EMS, officers of the Washington Township Police Department and deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the structure fire about 7:20 a.m. that had been called in by a passerby.
Indian Joint Fire District Assistant Chief Tim Reese said flames and heavy smoke were showing when crews arrived at the scene.
They remained at the Sycamore Street residence for about four to five hours fighting the blaze. No other injuries were reported.
Conrad was the only individual home at the time of the fire, and was listed as the owner of the home, according to Logan County Auditor’s Office records.
Authorities are compiling damage estimates for the home and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Indian Joint Fire District is awaiting a report from the State Fire Marshal’s Office, who were on scene Monday, Reese said.
