A refuse truck driver delivering a Dumpster Monday afternoon was cited for failure to control after his truck struck overhead cable television lines that then caused a Dayton Power & Light utility pole to break.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report Curtis L. Baum, 35, of Kenton, was operating an SV&E Refuse truck about 2:45 p.m. He reportedly delivered the Dumpster to a driveway at 8458 County Road 259 near County Road 97.
Baum reportedly exited the driveway headed eastbound and the elevated boom of the truck then struck the cable television line, which caused the utility pole to break and the cable and power lines to fall to the ground.
When deputies responded to the scene, they reported that Baum at first had left the scene of the crash, but had returned after being alerted about the incident by his employer. He told deputies he was unaware that his boom that struck the wires.
Baum did not report any injuries.
However, neighbors who witnessed the crash told deputies that they heard a commotion when the crash occurred, and reportedly yelled at the driver, who they said looked at the damage and then continued driving.
Deputies have forwarded a report to the Municipal Prosecutor’s Office for review of charges related to leaving the scene of an accident.
