SERNA |
Gerardo E. Serna, 42, of 2499 County Road 55, lot 2, Bellefontaine, was charged with two counts of child endangering, along with receiving stolen property and failure to disclose personal information related to an incident Friday morning.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched about 9:10 a.m. to his residence at the Indian Hills Manufactured Home Park. A caller reported that there were two children, ages 4 and 6, who were walking around the area and were hungry and were not wearing shoes.
The two children told deputies they had stayed overnight with “Georgie” in lot 2. The 6-year-old girl said their parents had left them in Serna’s care while they were at work. Serna was not at his residence at Lot 2 at the time deputies arrived.
About 30 minutes from the time of the original call about the children, Serna arrived at his residence, and said he had been at a horse ranch next door. He provided deputies with a photo ID card from Mexico that deputies said did not resemble Serna.
The defendant allowed deputies into his trailer to show them what the children had eaten for breakfast. Deputies noted that there were empty beer cans and trash throughout the trailer.
He was placed under arrest and transported to the Logan County Jail, where he was found to be in the possession of a bank card registered to a Philip Mowher. He told deputies he found the bank card on the ground and put it in his wallet.
There were no unauthorized transactions with the card after checking with the bank, deputies said.
Logan County Children’s Services also was contacted regarding this case.
