Deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office assisted their counterparts in Champaign County to apprehend a reckless motorist that crossed county lines about 8 p.m. Thursday along State Route 235.
Bradley G. Marano, 37, of Anna, was charged with failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer. Authorities located suspected drugs and a firearm during the arrest and additional charges are pending.
Law enforcement initially received a complaint of a male driver operating a truck pulling a flatbed trailer that was driving recklessly on southbound S.R. 235 in the DeGraff-Quincy area.
A sheriff’s deputy began to follow the vehicle and observed a number of marked lanes violations as the truck crossed into Champaign County.
Deputies from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office did not have a unit in the immediate vicinity to respond, and so the Logan County deputy continued to follow the motorist along southbound S.R. 235.
The driver reportedly traveled down into the ditch, and crossed over the center line multiple times, nearly striking other vehicles head-on, law enforcement reported.
As Champaign County worked to get into the area, the Logan County deputy twice activated his overhead emergency lights in an effort to get the vehicle to stop.
The suspect eventually pulled over on S.R. 235 in the area of Kiser Lake.
A second Logan County Sheriff’s deputy responded and the suspect was held until Champaign County deputies could arrive to investigate.
Baggies containing a white powder substance were found in his coat pocket and in his wallet. Deputies also seized a bottle of clear capsules that contained an unknown white powder. Inside the truck, deputies located a pistol with a loaded magazine on the driver’s seat.
Champaign County deputies assumed control of the scene, including taking possession of the suspect, as well as evidence.
Man lodged for domestic violence after being held at gunpoint by family member
Kyle A. Jacks, 29, of 1096 N. County Road 24, DeGraff, was charged with domestic violence related to an incident Thursday evening at his residence.
Deputies responded to the home about 6 p.m. on a report of an active domestic dispute with assault. It was reported that the defendant was suspected to be under the influence of drugs and had assaulted his mother. Deputies were advised that his father was holding Jacks at gunpoint in the kitchen area while being threatened by the defendant.
Upon deputies’ arrival, they observed that Jacks appeared very agitated and he was patted down for weapons. Deputies found a utility knife in his pants pocket. His parents said Jacks had threatened to slit their throats during the altercation.
Deputies said Jacks spoke rapidly during their contact with him and they also suspected that he was under the influence of a stimulant or illicit drugs. He was placed under arrest without incident and was transported to the Logan County Jail. He reportedly admitted to jail staff that he used methamphetamine a few days prior.
