Rachel Roberts, 95, of Rushsylvania, passed away Friday evening, Jan. 26, 2018, at Logan Acres Care Center.
She was born in East Liberty on July 20, 1922, to the late Herschel V. and Bessie McGinnis Moore. Rachel married John M. Roberts on July 20, 1946, in Rushsylvania and he preceded her in death July 25, 2012. She was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters.
Rachel was a member of Walnut Grove Methodist Church and was a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Rhoda Circle. Rachel was a tremendous cook and enjoyed crocheting and reading. She was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan. In her younger days, Rachel worked at Harding Machine in East Liberty in support of the war effort and she was our very own “Rosie the Riveter.”
Rachel is survived by her children, J. Michael (Debbie) Roberts of West Liberty, Jeanne (Rick) Marmon and Judy (Jim) Wolever, both of Bellefontaine, and Mel (Deb) Roberts of Rushsylvania; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pastors Daniel McCarty and Mike Roberts conduct a celebration of Rachel’s life and memories at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Hillcrest Baptist Church, Bellefontaine. A time of fellowship and meal follow the service. A family burial is in Rushsylvania Cemetery.
