Donald Eugene Roach, 81, of DeGraff, passed away Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at his home.
He was born in DeGraff on June 20, 1936, to the late Sanford Gail and Helen Ruth Gates Roach.
On June 19, 1960, Don married the former LaQuita O. Krisher and she preceded him in death Feb. 22, 2017. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Ruth McMillen.
Don is survived by his two sons, Curtis (Rebecca) Roach and Scott (Misty) Roach; six grandchildren, Stephanie, Kelli, Matthew, Cody, Courtney and Ashley; a sister, Dorothy Van Buskirk; brother-in-law, Harvey McMillen; and many nieces and nephews. After graduating from DeGraff High School in 1954, Don joined the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Don attended a trade school where he studied drafting. Don also began working for the United States Postal Service; in both north Dayton and Wright Patterson Air Force Base. In 1989, Don received the Dayton Postal Employee of the Year award. He also served as a member of the Riverside Local Schools Board of Education. After retiring, Don enjoyed his God-given talent of carpentry and woodworking. Don and LaQuita built an apartment building in DeGraff, which Don continued to operate and maintain.
Don was an active member in the American Legion Post 652, Shelby County Coin Club and Boggs Lodge 292 Free & Accepted Masons, where he was a Past Master. Don also served on the board of directors for United Midwest Savings Bank.
Don was a devoted husband, father and grandfather (as well as brother). He loved his family very much. He enjoyed spending time in his barn working with wood and building furniture, with his dog Coco at his side. He also was very active helping others in Logan County with building needs. He also loved mushroom hunting.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, at the Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 210 W. Hayes St., DeGraff, with a Masonic service beginning at 8 p.m. Pastor Lee Ortman officiates a funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at the funeral home where visitation begins at 10 a.m. Burial follows in Greenwood-Union Cemetery in DeGraff, with military rites by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.
