Lakers surprise WL-S in sectional game
Indian Lake’s softball team had an up-and-down regular season, but the Lakers took advantage of their fresh start with the arrival of the sectional tournament Wednesday.
The sixth-seeded Lakers used strong pitching and timely hitting to knock off fourth-seeded West Liberty-Salem 3-1 in a Division III tourney game at WL-S.
The Lakers (13-13) advance to face 10th-seeded Milton-Union in the sectional final at 5 p.m. Monday at Northmont High School. The Bulldogs upset top-seeded Arcanum 4-3 on Wednesday.
The fourth-seeded Tigers end their season with a 22-4 record.
After four scoreless innings Wednesday, Indian Lake scored two runs in the top of the fifth off a double by Brooke Lewis to take a 2-0 advantage.
The Lakers scored again in the top of the seventh when Sammi Miller scored on a WL-Salem throwing error. That gave Indian Lake a 3-0 lead.
