An effort to expedite a project to stabilize and secure the former U.S. Post Office building at 201 W. Chillicothe Ave. hit a procedural snag Tuesday.

Bellefontaine City Councilman Kyle Springs opposed a motion to bypass the council’s three-reading rule which requires three separate readings of ordinances before adoption.
Finance Chair Deb Baker asked for the rules suspension so the city could take possession of the structure from the Logan County Land Reutilization Corp. and immediately transfer it to a group of developers.
Spring’s nay vote and Councilman Zeb Wagner’s abstention because of his law firm’s involvement in the project prevented a super majority vote needed to bypass the rules.
