Riverside Schools staff and students headed back to class Aug. 16 for the 2017-18 school year, and at the board of education’s Tuesday evening meeting, members heard updates about the current school year, including the recent installation of a buddy bench by Aktion Club members from the Logan County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
Members also were provided with some summer highlights from a Riverside High School senior, who attended a U.S. Marine Corps program during July.
Caleb Stevens was selected as one of 96 students to receive the prestigious U.S. Marine Corps’ Semper-Fidelis All-American Award. In conjunction with the award, he and a mentor he selected, Riverside Junior High and High School Principal Kelly Kauffman, received an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C., to attend the Battles Won Academy, as previously reported in an Examiner story prior to his trip.
