Riverside’s baseball team shut out visiting Ansonia 5-0 in a non-league game Monday.
The Pirates are now 3-0 on the season. Riverside scored twice in the second inning and added three insurance runs in the sixth frame. Landon Purtee and Michael Shockey combined for the shutout on the mound.
Purtee earned the win, going four innings and allowing three hits and striking out three.
Shockey allowed two hits and struck out three in three innings of relief work.
Dominik Stotler and Aiden Manning each had two hits and Stotler also had two RBI to lead the Riverside offense. The Pirates are back in action today at Troy Christian.

WL-S blanks Triad
West Liberty-Salem’s baseball team cruised past Triad 10-0 in five innings in an Ohio Heritage Conference game Monday afternoon.
The Tigers are now 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the OHC. Triad falls to 0-3, 0-1. The Tigers did all of their scoring in the second and third innings.
WL-S plated three runs in the second inning and the Tigers put up a seven spot in the third frame to blow the game open.
Eli Allen went the distance on the mound to get the win. He allowed two hits and struck out eight. Offensively for the Tigers, Allen went 2-3 with an RBI, Jeremiah Johnson went 2-3 with an RBI, Isaiah Reames went 3-3, Jake Evans went 2-2 with two RBI and Caleb Hershberger went 2-3 with three RBI.
