West Liberty-Salem’s girls track and field team started its season in impressive fashion Monday, running away with the team title in the 12-team Ohio Heritage Conference preview meet at WL-S.
The Lady Tigers piled up 150 points to easily finish ahead of Mechanicsburg, which had 83.5. Triad was third with 83 and Cedarville and Greeneview tied for fourth with 74.
“We were excited to open up the outdoor season and I’m proud of the way our athletes competed,” said WL-S head coach Ann Vogel. “We had some outstanding early season performances.”
Senior Sophia Hardwick led the Tigers with first-place finishes in the discus (101-0) and 300 hurdles (49.17) and a second-place effort in the 100 hurdles (16.82).
Other first-place finishers for WL-S included Elise Longshore in the pole vault (9-0), Delaney Jones in the 100 (12.36) and the 800 relay team of Sophia Hardwick, Hattie Jacobs, Gwen McCullough and Mallory Bostick (1:54.18).
Earning runner-up spots for the Tigers were Tori Douthwaite in the pole vault (8-6), Malia Miller in the 3,200 (12:25.8) and the 3,200 relay team of Lily Smith, Mariska Smith, Mylee Dooley and Taylor Kennedy (11:29.87).
Finishing in third for the Tigers were Isabella Hardwick in the discus (99-07), Claire Longshore in the 100 hurdles (17.03), Malia Miller 1,600 (5:36.73), Gwen McCullough in the 400 (1:05.7) and 200 (28.57) and Addie McAuley in the 800 (2:35).
Fourth-place finishes went to Mallory Bostick in the 200 (28.58) and Lyndee Harrison in the shot put (29-03.5).
Taking fifth for the Tigers were Douthwaite in the 100 (13.53), Bostick in the 400 (1:06.72) and Jacobs in the 300 hurdles (53.04) Kennedy was sixth in the 3,200 (13;47.26), Claire Longshore placed seventh in the high jump (4-6) and placing eighth was the 400 relay team of Lexi Hausler, Elise Longshore, Bella Hughes and Celia Marin (1:00.98).
WL-S boys finish fifth
West Liberty-Salem’s boys track and field team finished fifth out of 12 teams in Monday’s OHC preview meet.
Mechanicsburg won with 154.5 points, Greeneview was second with 99 and Cedarville took third with 86. Leading the Tigers with a first-place finish was the 3,200 relay team of Knox, King, LaRoche and Rudolph (8:32.01).
Finishing in second was Casey Boyer in the high jump (5-10).
Fourth-place finishes for the Tigers went to Dylan King in the 800 (2:07.27) and the 1,600 relay team of Knox, King, LaRoche and Rudolph (3:50.48).
Taking sixth were Lincoln Henderson in the 400 (58.35) and Mason Barger in the 3,200 (11:30.85), while finishing in eighth were Jake Lauck in the high jump (5-6) and the 400 relay team of Saylor, Jones, Gluckle and Krabill (52.14).
Triad girls 3rd, boys 7th at OHC preview
Triad’s track and field teams had a strong showing at Monday’s Ohio Heritage Conference preview meet.
The girls team finished third and the boys squad was seventh. The Triad girls had three first-place finishes. Cayla Eaton won the 100 hurdles (15.87), Kimber Instine took top honors in the high jump (4-10) and Mia LeMay won the shot put (31-11.5).
Finishing in second for the Lady Cards were Eaton in the 300 hurdles (51.25) and high jump (4-8) and LeMay in the discus (99-5).
