Bellefontaine’s boys track and field team won the Circleville Relays on Saturday.
The Chiefs accumulated 112 points to take first in a field of eight teams. Logan Elm was second with 91 and Bloom Carroll was third with 86.
Bellefontaine won eight events. Finishing first for the Chiefs were the shot put team of Anthony Stamm and Haiden Manns (85-11.5), the 6,400 relay team of Seth Taylor, Jake Moreland, Hayden Maus and Tony Stewart (19:28.9), the sprint medley of Caden Snapp, Jacob Henry, Harper Scott and Kaiden Foulk (1:38.2), the 400 relay of Snapp, Henry, Kaiden Foulk and Scott (44.9), the 800 relay of Snapp, Henry, Foulk and Scott (1:35.5), the 1,600 relay of Zavier May, Wes Dunn, Scott and Foulk (3:43), the distance medley of Oliver Grandstaff, Dunn, Maus and Stewart (11:41.8) and the shuttle hurdles team of Jordan Reed, Brandon Wong, Cayden Downing and Henry (1:14.2).
Taking second for the Chiefs were the 3,200 relay team of Grandstaff, Dunn, May and Taylor (9:08.7) and the mixed medley relay of Downing, Loomis, Evan Greenbaum and Jake Moreland (3:47.5).
Finishing in third were the discus team of Jordan Hensley and Manns (233-3) and the triple jump team of Loomis and Draven Drake (62-7).
Adding a fifth-place effort was the long jump group of Loomis and Dunn (32-1.5).
“We had many upperclassmen complement our veterans and step up and fill big roles,” said BHS head coach Ben Davis. “It was a drastic improvement from this meet last year.”
Bellefontaine’s girls team finished fourth with 73.5 points. McClain won the meet, Circleville was second and Bloom Carroll took third.
Winning events for the Lady Chiefs were Kelsie Snapp and Alexis Robinson in the shot put (65-0.5) and discus (249-9), the 6,400 relay of Kailyn Newman, Ella Reier, Brianne Sechrest and Grace Brown (24:17.2) and the distance medley of Newman, Kaleigh Flora, Sechrest and Brown (14:23.1).
Taking second was the pole vault team of Harper Penhorwood and Parker Penhorwood (14-0) and finishing third was the high jump team of Flora and Callie Shumaker (8-4).
Finishing in fourth were the 1,600 relay team of Harper and Parker Penhorwood, Flora and Shumaker and the 400 relay of Elyncia Allen, Parker Penhorwood, Carrise Comstock and Shumaker (55.2).
Contributing fifth-place efforts were the 800 relay team of Allen, Kenzie Setser, Abby Geboy and Ryann Gatchel (2:06.9) and the mixed medley of Gatchel, Gracie Hood, Harper Penhorwood and Reier (4:58) and the long jump team of Hannah Wilson and Geboy (21-0.5).
“The veteran throwers led the way coupled with
our distance girls,” said Davis. “We were incorporating some new faces amongst our sprints and they improved throughout the meet.”
IL girls win Piqua Invite
Indian Lake’s girls track and field squad won the Piqua Invitational on Friday.
The Lady Laker had 147 points to take first. Batavia had second with 129 and Urbana was third with 107.
Placing first for Indian Lake were Addison Beck in the 200 (28.26) and long jump (156.25), and Ava Faler in the pole vault (7-6).
Placing second were the 4×800 relay (10:54), the 4×400 relay (4:34), Beck in the 100 (13.77), Reagan Rash in the 400 (1:04), Faler in the high jump (4-8) and Maddie Miller in the discus (107-0.25) and shot put (33-9).
Placing third were Hannah Metzger in the 3,200 (13:40), Beck in the high jump (4-6) and Faler in the long jump (15-0).
Piqua won the boys meet, Batavia was second and the Lakers took third. Placing first for the IL boys was Christopher Timms in the discus (135-8). Finishing in second for the Lakers were Timms in the shot put (42-7.5), the 4×200 relay (1:39), the 4×100 relay (46.30), and Quest Clay in the long jump (20-2.25). Placing third was Quest Clay in the 100 (11.7), Gavin Henry in the 300 hurdles (45.80) and the 4×400 relay (3:39).
WL-S boys finish second at Versailles
West Liberty-Salem’s boys track and field team finished second out of 10 teams in the larger school division at the Versailles Invitational on Saturday.
Marion Local won the meet with 138 points. The Tigers had 108.5 points for second, Versailles was third with 101.5 points and Brookville took fourth with 101.
Leading the Tigers with wins were Asher Knox in the 3,200 (10:17) and the 3,200 relay team of Knox, Wallen, Quentin Rudolph and Joey LaRoche (8:50.32).
