Riverside’s boys basketball team used a fourth-quarter rally to break a five-game losing streak and defeat host Mechanicsburg 43-39 on Saturday in non-league play.
The Pirates are now 7-12 overall as the Indians slide to 5-14.
“It was good for the boys to get back into the win column,” said RHS head coach Dean Sanford. “Everybody was productive tonight.
I thought we did an outstanding job defensively and did a really good job on the offensive boards. We’ll go back to work for Tuesday against Houston and, hopefully, we can try to get two in a row.”
Riverside led 11-10 after the first quarter and were ahead 24-22 at halftime. Mechanicsburg grabbed the lead by going on a 10-4 run in the third quarter. That put the Indians in front 32-28.
The Pirates rallied in the fourth quarter with a 15-7 scoring spurt and were able to hold on for the win.
In junior varsity action, Riverside rolled past Mechanicsburg 56-31. Kyle Knight led the Pirates with 15 points, Hank Harshbarger had 12 points and Alonzo Stotler had nine points and 10 rebounds.
Riverside travels to Houston on Tuesday for a non-league game.
