“People who quilt together, stay together,” rural Bellefontaine resident Bonnie Hansen said Monday after both she and her husband, Dwight, were named among the top winners of the open class quilt show.
Mr. and Mrs. Hansen said receiving the pair of wins — a best of show award for her and a reserve award for him — was a fitting way to mark their 46th wedding anniversary. The couple exchanged vows July 10, 1971, at the Bellefontaine United Methodist Church, about the same time the awards were being announced Monday, at 1:30 p.m.
“For awhile, I said I would never quilt,” Mr. Hansen said with a smile. “Now here I am today.”
“He’s joined me on this hobby, and now I do model trains with him,” Mrs. Hansen said. “He’s done a lot of quilting, and he’s working on his piecing skills. He’s also the main person that runs our long arm machine.”
