Trevor Hoffer, 21, and Erin Nielsen, 28, both of Bellefontaine, each was charged with possession of a controlled substance and child endangering related to a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon.
Officers of the Washington Township Police Department reportedly stopped their vehicle about 12:30 p.m. on State Route 708 in the area of Orchard Island for a stop sign violation.
Upon making contact with the occupants, Hoffer and Nielsen, criminal indicators were observed and officers asked to search the vehicle. Nielsen would not give consent to the search.
Officers summoned the Waynesfield Police K9 to the scene. After a positive alert on the vehicle, a search was completed.
Numerous controlled medications were recovered for which neither Hoffer nor Nielsen had prescriptions for. The defendants admitted purchasing the drugs for the purpose of illegal use.
A 7-year-old child was present in the vehicle. Both Hoffer and Nielsen were arrested and lodged in the Logan County Jail.
