Alan L. Heys Jr., 54, of Dayton, and Norman H. Penick Jr., 54, of 133 Clermont Ave., Russells Point, each were charged with a felony count of identity fraud following an incident early Saturday morning at Indian Lake.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched about 1 a.m. to Brother’s Bar, 11977 State Route 235, Lakeview, on a report of a woman’s purse that was missing.
Analisa Trares, 50, of Columbus, said she could not find her purse upon leaving the bar.
She said her cell phone also was located inside her purse. Utilizing a “Find my Phone” application for her cell phone, deputies were able to track her cell phone to the Marathon gas station, 209 State Route 708, Russells Point.
Deputies located Heys and Penick at the gas station. Heys admitted that he found Trares’ purse at the bar and claimed that he was going to place the purse at the post office’s mailbox to return it to the owner. Penick reportedly had picked up Heys from the bar.
At the gas station, Heys allegedly used debit and credit cards from the purse to purchase a total of $115 worth of cigarettes.
Both defendants were transported to the Logan County Jail. Heys also was charged with theft and misuse of a credit card. Penick also was charged with complicity to theft and complicity to misuse of a credit card.
