Bellefontaine High School sophomore Riley Neer assists kindergarten students in Lisa Plank’s classroom at Bellefontaine Elementary School Thursday with a Veterans Day effort to compile care packages to mail to 71 current service members who are also Bellefontaine High School graduates. The kindergartners helped to pack thank you cards they made, along with non-perishable food items. Also pictured assisting the younger students are high school pupils Jack Varner and Trey Taylor. Rick Reed and Chris Miller’s service-learning class AND BHS Key Club members helped to spearhead the effort to collect names and addresses of military personnel, as previously detailed in an Examiner story. BHS students in Jason Brown’s government class wrote letters to these military members as well. Easton Water Solutions is assisting with the shipping costs, and Ron’s Pizza and Dairy Queen of Bellefontaine provided gift certificates for the care packages . (EXAMINER PHOTO | MANDY LOEHR)
