Kevon E. Jefferson, 25, of Fremont, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs Thursday, Nov. 10, after deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to an injury crash, with a report of the vehicle fully engulfed in flames.
Deputies report Jefferson was operating a southbound 2010 Kia Soul in the 8700 block of north U.S. Route 68 about 10:20 p.m. when he went off the left side of the road, striking a telephone pole.
The vehicle overturned and came to rest upright on the east side of the roadway.
Deputies said upon arrival at the scene, Jefferson was distraught and was yelling about someone still being in the fully engulfed vehicle. However, Rushcreek Fire and EMS personnel arrived on scene and were able to extinguish the blaze. Once the fire was out, firefighters reported that no one was found inside the vehicle.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department also responded with a drone to search the area for any other individuals who might have been ejected from the vehicle, but no one was found in the area, deputies said.
Jefferson was transported by Rushcreek EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the crash. However, deputies reported he refused treatment at the hospital and he was placed under arrest for a warrant for domestic violence out of Sandusky County. He also was cited for seat belt, speed and driving under suspension.
Damage was heavy to the vehicle, which was towed from the scene.
