Logan County Health District Board of Health members extended at their meeting this week a five-year contract to a new health commissioner to fill the position of longtime Logan County Health Commissioner Dr. Boyd Hoddinott as he works toward retirement.
Travis Irvan will serve in the new health commissioner role, and his contract begins Aug. 30. His salary was set at $77,000 per year.
Since 2006, Irvan has been an employee of the Delaware Public Health District, and currently serves as a program manager and epidemiologist.
He received his masters of public health degree from the University of Toledo.
The LCHD staff have gotten to know Irvan through his contracted epidemiology services provided to the agency for many years, officials said.
With Irvan stepping into the new role, Dr. Hoddinott also was extended a new contract to serve as the health district’s medical director, effective Oct. 1. He will be training Irvan in September during the transition period.
For the medical director position, Dr. Hoddinott will work on an as needed basis for the health district, up to six hours a month, at the rate of $600 per month. He has served as health commissioner since 2000.
