The need for West Liberty Village Council to sell its dilapidated former police station became less pressing following action taken Monday in a regular meeting.
Council approved a liability insurance policy that does not separate its old police station at 112 E. Columbus St. from the rest of the buildings in the village.
The $31,146 annual policy from Selective Insurance was the least expensive of all the liability insurance quotes the village had received, fiscal officer Cindee Boyd said. Also included in that overall policy is coverage for the vacant police station.
Additional costs to insure the dilapidated structure separately from a blanket liability policy was among the motivations for council to look seriously into razing the building and turning it into a public parking lot.
