Raymond D. Baird, 52, of Springfield, was charged with felony possession counts for crack cocaine, methamphetamine and hallucinogenic mushrooms after a midnight traffic stop Saturday. He also faces misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
An officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department on patrol stopped Baird on Main Street near Grove Avenue after he could not observe a license plate on the car. When asked about contraband in the car, Baird admitted to having marijuana cigarette remnants in the center console.
He was instructed to get out of the car and the officer searched the interior after a deputy of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene to provide backup.
The officer found a pipe commonly used for smoking crack cocaine, the marijuana remnants and a six-pack of beer with one open and still cold to the touch. Baird was then taken into custody and placed in a cruiser.
The officer and deputy continued to search the car interior and found another pipe for consuming narcotics and a small foil wrapper with methamphetamine.
A black book bag was located in the trunk of the car and it contained three plastic bags with marijuana, a baggie with crack cocaine, a baggie with mushrooms, electronic scales and other drug paraphernalia.
Baird was lodged in the Logan County Jail and the car was taken to the police impound.
