Hayes T. Godwin, 20, of 4120 S. County Road 5, Bellefontaine, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs relating to a traffic stop early Saturday morning.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office on patrol about 2:45 a.m. in the area of county roads 1 and 29 observed that Godwin’s vehicle only had one operational taillight.
The vehicle turned onto Township Road 179 and kept its right turn signal activated for 1 to 1 1/2 miles, deputies said. The driver also was observed having difficulty maintaining his lane and deputies initiated the stop when the vehicle was driving in the opposite lane of travel.
Godwin agreed to submit to field sobriety tests and after the tests, he was placed under arrest. En route to the Logan County Jail, deputies were informed that the defendant was facing an OVI charge from a July 10 incident investigated by the sheriff’s office. That case is still pending in Bellefontaine Municipal Court.
At the jail, he refused to submit to a breath test. He also was cited for driving left of center.
• Amber D. Garee, 31, of Wapakoneta, was charged with OVI following a non-injury crash Sunday afternoon in the 12600 block of State Route 235.
Deputies report she was operating a southbound 2015 Chevrolet Sonice about 5:10 p.m. when she drove off the right side of the road, overcorrected and went back onto the roadway. She then crossed the center line and went off the left side of the road before coming to rest in a cornfield.
Damage was light to her vehicle, which was towed from the scene. The driver was wearing her seat belt, deputies said.
While speaking with Garee at the scene, deputies observed that she was unsteady on her feet and she had an odor of alcohol on her breath. She submitted to field sobriety testing and refused to take a breath test. She was placed under arrest and transported to the jail. The defendant also was cited for failure to control.
• Andrew F. Kerns, 59, of Cable, was charged with OVI during an incident Friday evening while he was operating a motorcycle in the Middleburg area.
Deputies responded about 9:40 p.m. to the area of County Road 153 and Columbus Street in reference to a possible intoxicated person. Another motorist reported observing Kerns operating a motorcycle at the stop sign on C.R. 153 and stated that the motorcyclist had laid the motorcycle down. While attempting to assist Kerns, the other motorist observed that he displayed signs of intoxication.
Deputies spoke with Kerns at the gas station in Middleburg, and observed damage to the right side of his motorcycle. While speaking to the defendant, deputies reportedly had difficulty understanding him because his speech was slurred.
During a search of the motorcycle and his person, deputies recovered a marijuana smoking device and a baggie with suspected marijuana residue. Kerns was placed under arrest, and at the jail, he refused to take a breath test. He also was cited for failure to control and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
• Donquail Williamson, 34, of Riverside, was charged with having physical control of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to an incident about 7:50 p.m. Sunday.
Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle that stuck in the front yard of a residence at 14357 U.S. Route 33, Lakeview, after running a stop sign. Upon arrival at the scene, deputies observed Williamson in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, trying to get it started.
He told deputies that his brother, Roshaun Williamson, had picked him up at an area bar where Donquail had been drinking. Roshaun reportedly been operating the vehicle when it crashed, and then Roshaun had been picked up from the scene by his friend.
Donquail displayed signs of intoxication and refused to take field sobriety tests. He was placed under arrest and transported to the jail, where he also refused to take a breath test.
Roshaun responded to the sheriff’s office after being contacted by deputies. He confirmed his brother’s story and Roshaun said he was the one driving the vehicle. He said he had left to attempt to get a tow truck for the disabled vehicle. Roshaun was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device, failure to control and leaving the scene of a crash.
Man lodged for criminal damaging
Brendon M. Harford, 26, of 6623 Lima St., Huntsville, was charged with criminal damaging relating to an incident Saturday morning at 7623 Eldridge St., Lewistown.
Deputies responded to the address about 8:30 a.m. on a report from the resident and other witnesses that Harford was refusing to leave and that he had damaged items in the home.
Deputies found the home in disarray, with pictures knocked off walls, plants thrown around and furniture overturned. Harford showed signs of intoxication and was placed under arrest and lodged in the jail .
