Julie A. Hoberty, 57, of 708 N. Main St., was charged Saturday with a felony count of operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs after a 1:25 a.m. traffic stop.
She was stopped after an officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department observed her fail signal for a turn from Garfield Avenue onto Sandusky Avenue. The officer followed Hoberty and observed other erratic driving such as accelerating abruptly, wide turns from one road to another and allowing her car to roll backwards nearly striking the police cruiser following her.
Once stopped on Palmer Avenue near Madriver Street, the officer approached the car and detected an odor of alcohol. Hoberty was instructed to step out of the car and was visibly unsteady on her feet.
She declined to participate in any field sobriety testing or provide a breath sample. She reportedly admitted to drinking six or seven beers.
She was issued traffic citations for driving under suspension and failure to signal.
A records check revealed she had OVI convictions in 2020, 2016, 2013, 2009 and 1994, the officer reported.
She was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
